A year into backend work, I've realized I like the parts of software nobody talks about, the APIs, the data flows, the stuff that just has to work. Now I'm getting into AI engineering, trying to understand how LLMs actually behave in production.
Right now I'm reading about LLM evals and writing small tools in Python.
About
I've been doing backend work for about a year. Most of it is APIs, database stuff, and making sure things don't fall over when traffic shows up. A lot of the bugs I've actually had to fix weren't hard, they were just in places nobody was looking.
Lately I'm spending time on AI engineering. Not training models, more the part where you have to actually put an LLM in front of users and keep it working. Evals, prompts, retrieval.
